Safecall is an app that allows you to store information about a date, meeting, or area where you go to and may feel unsafe. In case something might happen to you, the stored information including GPS will be sent at a certain time to up to three contact persons in the app. In this way they can find out where you are and what you've been up to in case of an emergency.
The price to download Safecall on your device is € 2,99 or the equivalent in your local currency. You can use Safecall as often as you need at no further costs.
Can I download Safecall on my phone?
Safecall is available for the iPhone 3GS, 4 en 4S, running on iOS 4.x and higher. The version for Android will soon be available. Use the QR codes on the right to download the app now.
Do my contact persons know where and when I have a meeting?
No, your contact persons only get a message from Safecall when you do not switch off the alarm. You can go out and use Safecall as often as you like. Nobody will find out what you’ve been up to as long as you switch off the alarm in time.
Why are details of a meeting always sent to my own e-mail address?
1. This way you see that Safecall really works.
2. Should you be in the unfortunate stiuation that you’re forced to switch off the Safecall alarm, then you’re still sure that at least the data will be sent to your onw e-mail. This way no one can prevent that the data are being stored and sent out. You may want to keep the log in details for your own e-mail in your house for others to find.
3. Some users like to keep an archive of the occasions they went out and used Safecall.
How are the contact persons informed when I sign up with Safecall?
Contact person will be send an e-mail with an invitation to become your contact person for Safecall.
No, your data are secure. Only if the alarm expires will they be sent an e-mail which shows a GPS log of your past and, if your phone is still on, current position.
Go to the Settings menu in the app. Click on the e-mail address of the contact person would like to change. You can now add a new e-mail address from your address book, or enter it manually. Your new contact person will receive this e-mail with the request to be your contact person. Your previous contact person will not receive any notice that ha/she has been removed.
How can I delete a contact person?
Go to the Settings menu in the app. Click on the e-mail address of the contact person would like to remove. Press the button “Remove contact”. The contact person will not receive any notice that ha/she has been removed
How can I add a contact person
Go to the Settings menu in the app. Press an empty contact field. You can now add an e-mail address from your address book, or enter it manually. Your new contact person will receive this e-mail with the request to become your contact person.
When you do not switch off the alarm before the set time and date expires, you will recive two notifications, 15 and 5 minutes before the alarm runs out, with a clearly recognizable alarm clock sound. You still have 15 or 5 minutes to switch off the alarm and prevent e-mails from being sent to your contact persons. If your phone is broken, or the battery is empty, you can also switch off the alarm via Switch off alarm.
Can you switch the alarm on or off via the website?
Via the website you can only switch the alarm off. Go to Switch off alarm and log in with the e-mail address known to Safecall and your pin number.
There are two types of e-mails your contact persons can receive. The first one is after signing up, when your contacts will receive an e-mail in which they are invited to become your contact person for Safecall. It is advisable to also contact them personally and ask them to accept the invitation. This is an eaxample of the e-mail that is sent to invite contact persons.
The second one is the emergency e-mail, which hopefully is never necessary. Contact persons only receive this e-mail when you do not switch off the alarm before it expires. The e-mail contains the details you entered, and advice what to do next. GPS data that have been stored are made available, and will be updated with your current position after the alarm has expired. This will stop after you press the grey button to set up a new meeting in the app.

What kind of e-mail do my contact persons receive when I do not switch off the alarm in time?

How do I change the language in the app?
The language of Safecall is connected to the language that has been set as standard in your phone: if your phone is set in Dutch, then the Dutch version of Safecall will appear; if you use another language, Safecall will show in English.
In which situations can I use Safecall?
Safecall is made for everyone who finds him/herself in a potentially vulnerable of unsafe situation. Examples are:
- Going out on your own
- Going home alone at night
- Young people going out in town
- Meeting an (internet) date
- Hitchhiking and going on holiday alone
- Going for a (long) walk on your own
- Going home with someone you’ve met in town
- Certain business meetings
